Policoro, Anglona and Tursi
Morning - Archaeological areas of metaponto and national museum of the Siritide in Policoro
In the territory of Metapontum it is possible to visit the remains of the ancient Greek city: from the temples to the theater and the agora. The extra-urban temple of the Tavole Palatine, dating from the 6th century B.C., emerges, standing partially on the right side of the lower reaches of the Bradano River.Further south, Policoro is home to the National Archaeological Museum of the Siritide, which houses artifacts from the pre-protohistoric period and finds from excavations of the Greek cities of Siris and Herakleia.
Pomeriggio - Anglona and tursi
The hill of Anglona stands in a picturesque landscape dominated by the clay formations of the badlands. On the hill is the monumental medieval basilica dedicated to Our Lady of St. Mary of Anglona, which recalls in its architectural influences and style of interior frescoes ancient dominations that succeeded one another in the area.
Further inland, Tursi shows in the urban layout and architectural features of its historical monuments the signs of a glorious past. In the upper part of the town, the "Rabatana," a probable stronghold of Arabs in the Middle Ages, shows singular palaces and the Church of St. Mary Major.
