By request Full day 8:00–7:00 PM
Departure from your hotel and/or resort; arrival in Matera and meeting with the local guide for a night tour of the ancient city and the Sassi district: characterized by houses carved into the limestone rock that appear small and illuminated from a distance, evoking the scenes of a Christmas nativity scene.
The natural landscape of the Sassi, which evokes biblical scenes, has long made them the perfect setting for major films such as *The Gospel According to St. Matthew*. During the walk, you will have the opportunity to admire the following sites: Sasso Caveoso, one of the neighborhoods within the Sassi district, entirely carved out of limestone, where you can see cisterns, ice houses, and small residential areas.
In 1993, after being saved from demolition, the Sassi were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Lunch at a traditional restaurant located in the Sassi.
During the walk, you’ll have the chance to see some of the locations used by director and actor Mel Gibson during the filming of the epic movie *The Passion of the Christ*. We will visit the traditionally furnished Cave House, complete with period furniture and tools, to get a clear idea of how rural life was organized in the houses of the Sassi, as described by Carlo Levi in his book “Christ Stopped at Eboli,” and the rock-cut crypt of Sant’Andrea.

The price includes: transportation by luxury coach, full-day guide
in Italian and a traditional lunch.
The price does NOT include: admission to Casa Grotta and the Rock Crypt
